The three tips
| Tip | Address | Pick-ups |
|---|---|---|
| Boysnope Wharf | Liverpool Road, Eccles, M30 7RH | Listed as accepted, but see below |
| Cobden Street | Cobden Street, Salford, M6 6NA | No. The council says they cannot get in |
| Lumns Lane | Lumns Lane, Clifton, M27 8LN | Listed as accepted, but see below |
All three are open 8am to 6pm, seven days a week. Any Greater Manchester resident can use any of the sites, free for household waste. Cars get 52 visits a year, and vans, hire vans and twin axle trailers need a free van permit and get 18. See the Greater Manchester tips guide for the full rules.
Boysnope Wharf
Boysnope Wharf takes plasterboard from your own home, and it has a coffee pod bin for Podback. The council's van permit page lists this among the ten larger sites for pick-up trucks, but the site's own rules also say no pick-up trucks, so check before you go in one. Trade plasterboard is refused. Asbestos is not taken at the normal bays.
Cobden Street
Cobden Street is the awkward one. The council says pick-up trucks cannot access the site, and it isn't on the list of 12 sites that take household plasterboard. It is, though, one of the four sites that take cement-bonded asbestos from your own home. Asbestos times here are Monday to Friday 7am to 5pm and Saturday 7am to 1pm, with the site closed on Sundays and bank holidays. See asbestos disposal in Manchester for the protective gear you need.
Lumns Lane
Lumns Lane takes household plasterboard and rubble from your own DIY, up to five 900mm by 600mm sacks a visit. It doesn't take asbestos. The council's van permit page lists this among the ten larger sites for pick-up trucks, but the site's own rules also say no pick-up trucks, so check before you go in one. The council's site page also asks you not to block the road for other users while you queue.
Salford bulky collection
Salford's page charges a minimum of £52.50 for up to four items, with extra items costing more and no figure given. Collections are aimed at 7 to 14 days after you pay, and usually fall on a Saturday. Leave the items outside in an accessible place. To change or cancel, ring 0161 793 2500.
The council says it won't collect bricks, rubble, plasterboard, soil, tiles, paint, vehicle parts or garages and sheds. Tyres, asbestos, fluorescent lights and more than ten sacks of rubbish need a separate quote. Sofas and other cushioned chairs go on their own vehicle. The page we checked was last updated in August 2025 and mentions no concessions. Compare it with single item removal or rubbish removal.

Salford residents can use any site, so see Bolton, Bury and Trafford, or the two Manchester tips at Longley Lane and Sandfold Lane.
