The two tips
| Tip | Address | Hours | Pick-ups |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hurstwood Court | Hurstwood Court, Raikes Lane, Bolton, BL3 2NP | 8am to 6pm daily | No. The council says they cannot get in |
| Salford Road (Over Hulton) | Salford Road, Bolton, BL5 1DG | Monday to Saturday 8am to 6pm, Sunday and bank holidays 10am to 4pm | Listed as accepted, but see below |
Both take household plasterboard from your own home. Any Greater Manchester resident can use any of the sites, free for household waste. Cars get 52 visits a year, and vans, hire vans and twin axle trailers need a free van permit and get 18. Both are open on bank holidays, except Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
Hurstwood Court
The council describes Hurstwood Court as one of its busiest sites. Quieter times are weekdays before 10am and after 4pm, and weekends before 11am and after 3pm. Vans and twin axle trailers need the permit, and pick-up trucks are not allowed in.
Salford Road
Recycle for Greater Manchester calls this site Over Hulton and gives the postcode BL5 1DG. Bolton Council lists it as Salford Road with the postcode BL5 1BW, so set your sat nav by the street and check the sign as you arrive. The council's van permit page lists this among the ten larger sites for pick-up trucks, but the site's own rules also say no pick-up trucks, so check before you go in one.
Summer and winter hours
Bolton Council's page gives Hurstwood Court as 8am to 8pm in British Summer Time and 8am to 6pm from the last Sunday in October. The clocks changed on 25 October, so the winter 6pm closing applies now. The Greater Manchester list shows 8am to 6pm, so check before a late summer visit.
Bolton bulky collection
Bolton charges £41 for up to five items and £82 for six to ten, paid by card. The council says the service is not available to businesses or landlords, and it can't collect from an empty property. That matters if you are clearing a rental, because the waste is the landlord's. See landlord and rental waste in Manchester. The page we checked gave no booking steps or exclusion list, so read them when you book.
