Garden waste piles up quickly after a big cut-back or a garden makeover. A waste company can collect what you have bagged or piled up, so you do not need to make trip after trip to the tip.
What counts as garden waste
- Grass cuttings, leaves and weeds
- Hedge trimmings, shrub prunings and branches
- Old plants, turf and small tree waste
- Fencing, sheds and decking from a garden clear-out (tell the company so they can price it properly)
Soil, turf, stones and paving are much heavier than green waste, so companies often price them differently. Mention them when you ask for a quote.
Council collection or a private company?
Many councils run garden waste collections, often as a paid subscription, and some tips limit how much you can bring. That works well for regular, small amounts. A private waste company can be a better fit for a one-off job, a big clear-out or when you want it gone on a particular day. Check your own council's current rules and charges so you can compare properly.
What changes the price
- The amount of waste, and whether it is bagged or in a pile
- Whether it is light green waste or heavy material such as soil and turf
- How far the waste is from where the van can park
- Whether anything needs cutting up or breaking down first
Clearing waste is not the same as gardening work
Waste companies collect waste. If you also need hedges cut or trees taken down, say so, because that is gardening or tree work and may be a separate company or a separate price.
