Any Greater Manchester resident can use any of the sites, free for household waste. Cars get 52 visits a year, and vans, hire vans and twin axle trailers need a free van permit and get 18.

Every Street

Bury Council warns that the Bury site has a height barrier. Vehicles over 2 metres have to use the waste transfer weighbridge on site. The council also says no vans over 5.3 metres or 3.5 tonnes are allowed at any of the centres. Bury's page says asbestos must go to a waste transfer facility, and trade waste can go to a Suez transfer facility, where you need to wear PPE.

Cemetery Road, Radcliffe

Radcliffe is the Bury site that takes household plasterboard, and it has no height barrier. The council's van permit page lists this among the ten larger sites for pick-up trucks, but the site's own rules also say no pick-up trucks, so check before you go in one.

Bury bulky collection

Bury charges £49 per collection, for up to five items, and the charge is non-refundable. You can book online up to three weeks ahead, and dates are usually available within a week. If you receive Council Tax benefit you can get one collection a year at half price by ringing 0161 253 5353. Leave items at your usual bin point, front garden or driveway. They must be whole, and soft furnishings must be kept dry and covered. Nothing is taken from a back garden, shed, garage or inside the property, including flats. A directory listing still shows £41, so use the council's own booking page for the current price. With the clocks back since 25 October, the winter 6pm closing applies now.

Wardrobes and fitted furniture

Bury counts big items as several. A double wardrobe is four of your five items. Fitted wardrobes, fitted kitchens, worktops, fence panels, sheds and window frames aren't taken at all. See wardrobe and furniture disposal in Manchester and strip-out waste for other routes.
