The council and sheds
Trafford does not publish its full list of collectable items on the bulky page. The list is in the terms you see when you book. Its terms say every item must be safely carried by two people and be no longer than 3 metres, and that very heavy items are left. A standing shed will not meet that, and it costs £44.10 for each five items listed.
Taking a shed down
- Clear everything out and check for wasps or nests
- Strip the roof felt, then lift off the roof panels
- Unscrew the sides one panel at a time, with a second person holding them
- Knock out or bend over any nails
- Sort wood, metal, glass and felt before you load the car
Recycle for Greater Manchester takes wood and timber from your own DIY at Chester Road in Stretford or Woodhouse Lane in Altrincham. A base of slabs or concrete is rubble, limited to five 900mm by 600mm sacks a visit. Window glass cannot go in the mixed recycling bin.

Grey corrugated cement sheets on an older shed or garage may contain asbestos. Leave them whole and do not drill, saw or snap them. Neither Trafford tip takes asbestos: see asbestos disposal in Trafford.
Getting it removed
A clearance company can dismantle the shed and take it, with the base if you ask. Get one price covering both, and check their waste carrier registration.
