Wardrobe and furniture disposal in Newcastle

Here are your options for an old wardrobe or furniture in Newcastle, checked against Newcastle City Council pages on 29 October 2026.

Council collection

The council bulky collection price list has a wardrobe (double or single, not fitted) at £10, along with a 3 or 5 drawer chest, bedside cabinet, wall unit or dresser, sideboard, dining table, and coffee table (tape up any glass). A large bookcase is £40. The list says nothing about fitted wardrobes, so ask the council what you would pay. Anything not on the list is £70 as an individual item. The council page also shows a 25% discount on listed prices, which it describes as current, so check the booking form.

The tips

Brunswick, Byker and Walbottle all take furniture and timber. You need to be a Newcastle resident with a vehicle, and a van needs a van permit and must use Brunswick. See the Newcastle tips guide.

Private collection

A licensed firm will take furniture from inside your home, including up the stairs, and remove it in one go. UK guide prices are about £35 to £80 for a large item, depending on size and stairs. For a whole room, see rubbish removal. For a flat or house, see house clearance in Newcastle. Compare furniture and appliance removal.

Getting it ready

• Empty it completely, including the top and the back
• Take the doors and drawers out
• Keep the screws in a bag taped to a panel
• If you are replacing it, ask the shop whether it will take the old one
