The council
Sheds and garages are on Bury's list of things its bulky collection will not take (checked against Bury Council and Recycle for Greater Manchester pages on 2 November 2026). It also will not collect from a back garden, so even the contents would need moving to the front.
Taking it down
- Empty it and check for nests
- Strip the felt and lift off the roof
- Take the sides off one panel at a time with a helper
- Remove or flatten nails
- Sort wood, metal and glass for the tip
Wood and timber from your own home can go to Every Street in Bury or Cemetery Road in Radcliffe. A slab or concrete base counts as rubble, limited to five 900mm by 600mm sacks a visit.

Grey corrugated cement sheets on older sheds and garages may contain asbestos. Leave them whole. Bury says asbestos must go to a waste transfer facility, not a household tip: see asbestos disposal in Bury.
Paying someone
A clearance company can take it down and away in one visit. Ask for one price covering both, and check their waste carrier licence.
