Tyres
The council says old tyres are accepted at all its sites, with a limit of 4 per vehicle. The pages we checked give no charge. You must be a Newcastle resident, arrive in a vehicle, and not bring tyres from a business. See the Newcastle tips guide.
Plasterboard
The council's text says it can accept small amounts of building waste, rubble, soil and plasterboard at Byker and Walbottle. Its table, though, also lists plasterboard as accepted at Brunswick, so the page contradicts itself. Ring the council before taking plasterboard to Brunswick. The council doesn't say what a small amount is.
If you have a van
Vans can only use Brunswick, so plasterboard from a van load is the case where the council's contradiction matters most. Get the answer before you apply for a van permit and drive over.
If you can't go
For plasterboard from a bigger job, a builders' waste collection or a skip is usually simpler. For a few old tyres, ask whether the garage fitting your new ones will take the old ones. The council's bulky collection list doesn't include plasterboard or tyres. See also rubble and building waste in Newcastle.
