What the council will not take

Bolton's council bulky collection only takes free-standing items. Its not-collected list includes fixtures and fittings (units, integrated doors, windows, bathroom and kitchen suites), fitted bedroom or kitchen units and builder waste. The terms add that dismantled items such as fitted wardrobes or kitchen units are not taken. So an old kitchen or bathroom cannot go on the £41 collection.

Using the tips

Rubble and tiles count towards the limit of five 900mm by 600mm sacks a visit, from work you did yourself. Plasterboard from your own home is accepted. A van needs a free van permit, and vans and trailers get 18 visits a year. A full strip-out often takes several trips. See Bolton tips.

If a fitter did the job

Waste from tradespeople you hired counts as trade waste, which Bolton's recycling centres do not accept. Ask the fitter to take it away as part of the quote, and check they are a registered waste carrier. See duty of care in Bolton.

Rough costs

LoadRough private price
Small load (a few bags and items)£60 to £100
Half a van£150 to £250
Full van£250 to £400 or more

These are rough guide prices. A kitchen with worktops, appliances and rubble is usually at least half a van.
