Council collection
The council bulky collection terms say that if the item is a carpet, it should be rolled up and tied with string and stored in an upright position. You can book up to five bulky items per property for free. The pages we checked don't say whether one rolled carpet counts as one item, so say how many rolls you have when you book.
The tips
We couldn't find carpet named on the accepted list for Old Swan, and the Otterspool page lists no items. The council says its sites take bulky items such as furniture. Ring the authority on 0151 255 1444 before a trip. See the Liverpool tips guide.
Private collection
If you're replacing the flooring in a whole house, you may have more than a free collection of five items will carry. A licensed firm can take the carpet and underlay together in one visit. For a big job, see rubbish removal or house clearance in Liverpool.
Getting it ready
- Cut and roll the carpet, and tie it with string
- Keep it dry. Wet carpet is much heavier
- Pull up the gripper rods and staples with gloves on
- If it's a tenancy, check who is responsible. See landlord and rental waste in Liverpool
