Cost and limits
Liverpool City Council describes its bulky collection as free for its residents. You can request up to five bulky items per property, plus up to five small electrical items and up to five bags of textiles (clothes, belts, shoes, handbags) in one collection. You can't book a collection for textiles or small electricals alone. The pages we checked mention no charge and no limit on how often you can book.
How it works
- Read the terms and conditions, then fill in the online request form
- Leave the items outside your home, accessible and where possible clear of the alley and the public highway
- The council says collections happen when it is next in your area, between 7.30am and 4.30pm. The page gives no fixed day
- To change or cancel, use the link in your confirmation email. If the collection is due within 24 hours, you have to call
Items inside a garage, shed, back garden or yard are only collected if you are there to go with the crew. A house split into flats needs one booking per flat, and collections booked outside the Liverpool area are cancelled.
What they won't take
The terms list baths, toilets, sheds, trampolines, swing sets, blinds, range cookers, sliding wardrobes, kitchen worktops, shower screens, sun beds, pianos, sports tables such as snooker and pool, basketball nets, batteries, garden waste, builders' waste, external doors and windows, liquids, hazardous waste and gas cylinders. The service is not for house clearances. The council also says it doesn't collect items left at landlord or To Let properties, or at business premises.
Getting items ready
- Cover sofas and beds
- Store mattresses upright if you can
- Roll carpet up, tie it with string and stand it upright
- Take very large or heavy items apart where possible
- Tape or cover any glass, for example in a display cabinet
Council or private?
For a sofa, a mattress or a fridge, a free collection is hard to beat if you can wait for the date. For a kitchen, a bathroom or a whole house it is ruled out. See builders' waste collection or house clearance in Liverpool. For one item see sofa, mattress or fridge disposal.
