Council collection
Carpets are named as something the council takes (Tameside bulky collection). One carpet is one item, as long as two people can handle it. Otherwise it must be cut, rolled and tied. Underlay is a separate item, so a few rooms can use up five items quickly (checked against Tameside Council and Recycle for Greater Manchester pages on 2 November 2026).
At the tip
The Recycle for Greater Manchester guide says carpets can go to a recycling centre, so Ash Road in Droylsden or Bayley Street in Stalybridge will take carpet you lifted yourself. A van needs a free van permit.
