The two tips
| Tip | Address | Plasterboard | Pick-ups |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ash Road | Ash Road, Droylsden, M43 6QU | Not on the council list | Not listed as accepted |
| Bayley Street | Bayley Street, Stalybridge, SK15 1PZ | Yes, from your own home | Listed as accepted, but see below |
Any Greater Manchester resident can use any of the sites, free for household waste. Cars get 52 visits a year, and vans, hire vans and twin axle trailers need a free van permit and get 18. Both sites have donation containers, and Tameside's page says its residents can use any of the 19 recycling centres across Greater Manchester.
Ash Road
Ash Road isn't on the plasterboard list, and pick-up trucks aren't listed as allowed. If you have plasterboard from your own home, Bayley Street is the Tameside site to use.
Bayley Street
Bayley Street takes household plasterboard, with the permit if you arrive in a van, and it has a coffee pod bin for Podback. Rubble and soil are limited to five 900mm by 600mm sacks per visit. The council's van permit page lists this among the ten larger sites for pick-up trucks, but the site's own rules also say no pick-up trucks, so check before you go in one.
Tameside bulky collection
Tameside charges a £38 non-refundable administration charge for up to five household items, paid in advance online or in cash at an In Touch centre. A three-piece suite counts as three items. Pensioners can get a free collection of white goods such as fridges, cookers, freezers, washing machines and tumble dryers.
Booking rules
- Request by 3pm on the working day before collection
- Items should be out from 7am at one easy point, and the crew runs 7am to 3pm on your area's usual day
- Sofas and other upholstered items are collected separately, so you may get two visits
- Not taken: bagged or loose domestic waste, sheds, rubble bags, garden waste, gas bottles, fence panels, car and motorbike parts, asbestos, pianos, builders' waste, baths, toilets and sinks
For those, see rubble and building waste or house clearance.
