Cost and counting
Tameside charges a £38 non-refundable administration charge for up to five household items, paid online or in cash at an In Touch customer service centre (checked against Tameside Council and Recycle for Greater Manchester pages on 2 November 2026). The council's test is whether you would take the item with you if you moved house.
- A three-piece suite is three items
- Each item is listed on its own: "1 settee, 1 chair, 1 chair", not "2 chairs" or "1 complete bed"
- A carpet must be manageable by two people, or cut, rolled and tied. Underlay is a separate item
- One wardrobe is one item, not a full bedroom set
- If two matching items are outside and you only booked one, neither is taken
- Anything not listed stays behind, and extras need a new request
Collection days
| Collection day | Areas |
|---|---|
| Monday | Audenshaw and Droylsden |
| Tuesday | Denton and Hyde |
| Wednesday | Dukinfield, Longdendale and Stalybridge |
| Thursday | Ashton-under-Lyne and Mossley |

Book by 3pm on the working day before. If your area's day is full, you get the following week.
On the day
Tameside asks for items to be ready from 7am, outside and all in one easy-to-reach place, and the crew calls between 7am and 3pm. Sofas and other upholstered items go on a separate vehicle, so the crew may come twice. Do not fill furniture with other rubbish, and empty all food from fridges and freezers.
What Tameside will not take
- Bagged or loose household rubbish
- Sheds, greenhouses, fence panels and large gates
- Bags of rubble, concrete posts and general builders' waste
- Baths, toilets and sinks
- Internal and external doors, garage doors and window frames
- Garden waste and Christmas trees
- Pianos
- Asbestos, gas bottles, drums and car or motorbike parts
