Free for pensioners
Tameside offers pensioners a free collection of white goods such as fridges, freezers, cookers, washing machines and tumble dryers. The pensioner must be in on the day and show proof of address, such as a utility bill, and proof of age, such as a pension book, birth certificate or pensioner's bus pass. Without it, the items are not taken. Other items are charged at the standard rate (checked against Tameside Council and Recycle for Greater Manchester pages on 2 November 2026).
Everyone else
A fridge or freezer can go on a Tameside bulky collection for £38, alongside up to four other items. Remove all food first. Tameside asks for items to be ready from 7am, outside and all in one easy-to-reach place, and the crew calls between 7am and 3pm.

Fridges and freezers can go to Ash Road in Droylsden or Bayley Street in Stalybridge. A working fridge in good condition can be donated instead. If you are buying a new one, the shop must take the old one back free.
Private collection
A licensed company can take it straight from the kitchen. As a UK guide, expect roughly £30 to £70.
