Council collection

The council bulky collection is free, but its exclusion list names sliding wardrobes, along with sports tables, pianos and kitchen worktops. A normal hinged wardrobe, chest of drawers or bedside table isn't on it. The terms ask you to dismantle very large or heavy items where possible and leave everything outside, clear of the alley and the road.

The tips

Old Swan lists wood and timber and upholstered domestic seating among accepted items, and the council says its tips take bulky items such as furniture. A sliding wardrobe, which the council won't collect, is a candidate for the tip or a private collection. A van needs a van booking. See the Liverpool tips guide.

Giving it away

Emmaus Merseyside, Alder Hey Charity Shops and British Heart Foundation Tuebrook are named as collecting larger furniture items free of charge. Ring first, because the council's page doesn't say what they accept.

Private collection

A licensed firm will take furniture from inside your home, including up the stairs, and remove it in one go. UK guide prices are about £35 to £80 for a large item, depending on size and stairs. For a whole room, see rubbish removal. For a flat or house, see house clearance in Liverpool. Compare furniture and appliance removal.
