- Cars don't need to book
- 12 visits a year for vans and large trailers, counting garden waste
- Residents of Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens, Knowsley or Wirral
- Next-day bookings close at 4pm

Who needs one
You must book if you arrive in a van of any size, hired or owned, or towing a trailer between 2m and 3m long (the outside length of the box). The authority's list also includes a single-cab pick-up, and an estate, hatchback or 4x4 with the rear seats permanently removed or the rear and side windows blanked out. A standard car doesn't need a booking.
How it works
- Go to the Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority booking page and create your own account
- Book a slot at the site you want. It is free
- For a next-day slot, book before 4pm. Next-day bookings can't be made after that
- For booking questions the authority gives 0151 255 1444
The page says a new system means residents manage their own account. It doesn't spell out what proof of address you need, so it is sensible to carry your driving licence and a recent bill.
Visits
Residents using a van of any size or a large trailer are allowed a maximum of 12 visits over the year, and green and garden waste visits count towards it. The pages we checked don't say when the year starts, so ask when you book. They give no visit limit for cars.
What it does not cover
The tips are for household waste. Trade and commercial waste isn't accepted, and the sites say trade waste is the responsibility of the trader or business that produced it. Cement-bonded asbestos has its own appointment system at other sites, run through Veolia. See asbestos disposal in Liverpool.
Got a van-sized load? A licensed rubbish removal or builders' waste company brings its own vehicle, with nothing to book and no visit count.
