Stoke-on-Trent tips: Hanford and Burslem
Stoke-on-Trent has two household waste recycling centres, each with something the other won't take. Here's how they work, checked against Stoke-on-Trent City Council pages on 27 October 2026.
- Two tips: Hanford (ST4) and Burslem (ST6)
- Both closed Mondays and Tuesdays
- Free DIY waste: two 50-litre bags or one item like a bath, 4 times in 4 weeks
- More than that? £3.15 a bag for rubble, £4.15 for plasterboard
- From 2 November: vans and trailers need a free permit and a booking

You'll sign a form saying it isn't from paid work. Anything over that is charged, by debit card only. See the full price list.
Vans and trailers
The council says that from 2 November, anyone coming in a van, with a trailer or another eligible vehicle must register for a free waste permit and book a visit. Van and trailer visits are limited to 12 a year. See the van and trailer permit.
Other limits
- Fitted items like doors, windows, cupboards and wardrobes, and uPVC: up to 1 cubic metre, once every six months
- Engine oil: 25 litres every six months. Car batteries: two every six months
- Bring proof of your address. Non-residents, and anyone who can't prove their address, pay charges
- Drivers of commercial-type vehicles may be asked for a driving licence
What they won't take
- Tyres: not accepted at either tip
- Trade or business waste
- Sheet glass, Pyrex and drinking glasses
