- More than that, or not cement-bonded: use a specialist
Burslem tip
Burslem tip on Federation Road (ST6 4HU) takes cement-bonded asbestos from homes: up to two double-bagged, sealed 25kg bags, once every six months. Hanford doesn't take asbestos, and neither does the council bulky collection. Burslem is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
Handling it safely
- Don't break, cut, drill or sand it
- Keep it damp and handle it as little as possible
- Double-bag it and seal the bags
- Wear a disposable FFP3 mask, gloves and disposable overalls
When to call a specialist
- You're not sure what it is
- It's lagging, insulation board or anything crumbly
- It's more than two bags, or still fixed to the building
- It's broken or damaged
Normal waste companies won't take asbestos. Once a specialist has removed it, a licensed company can take the rest of the job.
