The three tips
| Tip | Address | Plasterboard | Pick-ups |
|---|---|---|---|
| Adswood Road | Adswood Road, Cheadle Hulme, SK8 5QY | Yes, from your own home | Not listed as accepted |
| Bredbury Parkway | Bredbury Park Way, Bredbury Park Industrial Estate, SK6 2SN | Yes, from your own home | Listed yes, but see below |
| Rose Hill | Railway Road, Rose Hill, Marple, SK6 6HU | Not on the council list | Not listed as accepted |
All three are open 8am to 6pm daily on the Recycle for Greater Manchester list. Any Greater Manchester resident can use any of the sites, free for household waste. Cars get 52 visits a year, and vans, hire vans and twin axle trailers need a free van permit and get 18.
Adswood Road
Adswood Road takes household plasterboard, but not asbestos, and the council's list doesn't show pick-up trucks as accepted. Plasterboard and tyres in Manchester covers what to expect.
Bredbury Parkway
Bredbury is the all-rounder. It takes household plasterboard, and it is one of the four asbestos sites: cement-bonded only, from your own home, Monday to Friday 7am to 6pm, weekends 7am to 5pm and bank holidays 7am to 6pm. Stockport Council's page says it is the only Stockport tip that takes vehicles over 2 metres. The Greater Manchester pages say the 2 metre barrier has gone everywhere except Spring Vale and Every Street, so if your vehicle is tall, use Bredbury to be safe. The council's van permit page lists this among the ten larger sites for pick-up trucks, but the site's own rules also say no pick-up trucks, so check before you go in one.
Rose Hill, Marple
Rose Hill isn't on the council's plasterboard list, and the council's list doesn't show pick-ups as accepted. Take plasterboard to Adswood Road or Bredbury Parkway instead. The older Stockport page lists carpets, tyres, rubble, timber and electricals among the things the tips take, but it was last updated in 2021, so treat the Greater Manchester pages as the up-to-date source.
The green bin permit
Stockport is one of the few Greater Manchester councils that charges for garden waste. The permit costs £59 per green bin for 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027, or £39 for one bin if you get Council Tax Support. A second bin is £59. Buying later in the year doesn't cut the price. Garden waste can still go to the tips for nothing. See garden waste in Manchester for what the green bin takes in the city.
Bulky waste
Stockport's discount page offers half-price bulky collections to people on housing benefit, income support or another low-income benefit, or with a Band A Leisure Key card: £15 for one item, £25 for two, £40 for three to eight. DIY and building waste get no discount. Book on 0161 217 6111 and pay by card. You can't add items to an existing booking. The page is dated June 2024 and we couldn't find the full price, so check before you book. You can also take items to the tips free, or try the furniture charities Stockport lists.
