Sheffield tips: all five recycling centres
Sheffield has five household waste recycling centres, each closed on different days. Here's how they work, checked against Sheffield City Council and Veolia Sheffield pages on 28 October 2026.
- Five tips, run by Veolia for Sheffield City Council
- Winter hours: 9.30am to 3.30pm (summer to 5.30pm)
- Only Shirecliffe is open 7 days. The others close one or two days a week
- Vans and trailers need a permit. Some vans are banned outright
- Height barriers at 1.8m

| Season | Hours |
|---|---|
| Winter (1 October to 31 March) | 9.30am to 3.30pm |
| Summer (1 April to 30 September) | 9.30am to 5.30pm |
Same hours at every site, on the days it's open.
Vans and trailers
Vans, pick-ups and trailers need a permit from the council. A yearly permit gives 12 visits to one nominated tip and is for households where the van is the only vehicle, or for a car and trailer. Otherwise you can apply for a one-off visit, up to 3 a year. These are banned at every tip: Luton box vans, long-wheelbase vans, twin-axle vehicles, pick-ups (except 4x4s) and vans towing trailers. All sites have 1.8m height barriers. See the van permit guide.
Asbestos
Four of the five tips take domestic cement-bonded asbestos, double-wrapped with a clear outer layer so both layers can be seen. Shirecliffe doesn't take asbestos. See asbestos disposal in Sheffield.
Other rules
- The tips are for Sheffield residents, not traders
- The council says waste from renovation or construction work should go in a skip, not to the tip
- Children under 16 and pets must stay in the car
- Plasterboard is accepted at all five sites

Can't get to a tip, or your van is banned? A licensed company can collect instead: rubbish removal, single items, builders' waste, garden waste or house clearance.
Tip not an option?
A licensed Sheffield company can collect from your home, with no permit needed.
