What the tip will and won't do

Sheffield's tips are for household waste from Sheffield residents. The council's permit page says that if you're doing renovation or construction work, the waste should go in a skip, and trade waste mustn't be left at the tips. Add the van rules (permits, 1.8m barriers, and no Luton or long-wheelbase vans) and the tip isn't realistic for most building jobs.

Your options

OptionBest forRough cost
Builders' waste collectionPiles or bags of rubble, loaded for youOften £150 to £250 for a medium load, £250 to £400 for a large one
SkipLonger jobs you fill as you goDepends on size; a permit is needed if it goes on the road
Grab lorryTonnes of soil or rubbleAround £150 for a small load up to £450 to £500 for 16 tonnes

The council's own bulky collection treats fixtures and fittings, including baths, as a separate service with a £129.70 minimum.

Asbestos

Four Sheffield tips (all except Shirecliffe) take domestic cement-bonded asbestos, double-wrapped with a clear outer layer. Anything that isn't domestic and cement-bonded needs a licensed specialist. Normal waste companies won't take it. See asbestos disposal in Sheffield.
