Plan the council collection
The Bury bulky collection is £49 for up to five counted items. You can book up to three weeks ahead and dates are usually available within a week. Once booked you cannot add items, and there is no refund if you cancel or items are not out on the day, so book for a date you are sure of. Bury says items must be left whole at your usual bin point, front garden or driveway, and it will not collect from a back garden, yard, shed, garage or from inside a property, including flats.
Reuse what you can
Bury suggests charities and community schemes for items in good condition. Upholstered furniture needs its fire label to be donated. If you are buying new appliances, ask the shop to take the old ones.
