Cost
Each collection costs £49 and covers up to five items. If you receive Council Tax benefit, you can ask for one half-price collection of up to five items a year by ringing 0161 253 5353 (checked against Bury Council and Recycle for Greater Manchester pages on 2 November 2026).
How Bury counts items
Bury gives each item a count, and larger items use up more of your five:

So a corner sofa or a full double bed takes a whole £49 booking on its own. The council's page lists around 90 items with their counts, so check yours before booking.
Where to leave things
Bury says items must be left whole at your usual bin point, front garden or driveway, and it will not collect from a back garden, yard, shed, garage or from inside a property, including flats. Soft furnishings must be kept dry and covered.
What Bury will not take
- Bagged household waste
- Fitted wardrobes, fitted kitchens and kitchen worktops
- Sheds, garages, fence panels and posts, and large dog kennels
- Window frames, mirrors and glass items, including shower screens
- Pianos and other musical instruments
- Large gym equipment, gas bottles and double-extension ladders
