Council collection
The council bulky collection lists both memory foam and spring mattresses as collectable. A mattress and a bed frame would be two items at £15, and the booking fee is on top. You can swap items until 2pm on the working day before.
The tips
The pages we checked do not list mattresses either way at the tips. The general rule is that items must fit in the boot of your car, and you need a booked slot first. See the tip booking guide.
Private collection
A licensed single item collector will usually take a mattress from the room it is in. UK guide prices are about £20 to £50, depending on the size and the stairs.
Handy tips
- Ask the shop whether it takes the old mattress away when you buy a new one
- Keep it dry and clear of the path until the crew arrives
- Add a bed frame to the same booking, since the price is by the number of items
