Why the council route rarely works
The council charges £44.10 for each block of five items, so thirty items would mean six blocks and £264.60, all carried outside first. Trafford's terms say items must be outside the building but inside your property boundary by 6.30am, put out only that morning, and each one must be safe for two people to carry. A house also has bags, boxes and loose items that a bulky booking does not cover. The Trafford tips help with car loads, and vans need a free van permit.

| Property | Rough UK guide |
|---|---|
| One room or a studio | £300 to £500 |
| Part-full 2 to 3 bed home | £500 to £900 |
| Full 3 to 4 bed house | £900 to £1,500 |
Bigger homes in Sale, Altrincham and Hale, lofts, garages and outbuildings push the price up. A company that can sell or donate some of the contents may knock something off.
Checking a company
- Ask for their waste carrier registration number and check it on the Environment Agency register
- Get the price in writing, including what happens if there is more than expected
- Ask where the contents go, and keep the receipt or waste transfer note
Trafford raised its fly-tipping fixed penalty from £450 to £1,000 in June 2026, and the council says it also checks that businesses can show where their waste went. If dumped waste is traced back to you, you can be held responsible, so use a registered carrier.
