Council and tip
Trafford does not publish its full list of collectable items on the bulky page. The list is in the terms you see when you book. Its terms say each item must be manageable by two people and no longer than 3 metres, so a hard-shell hot tub in one piece is unlikely to qualify. The Recycle for Greater Manchester recycling guide does not mention hot tubs, so check with the site before taking pieces to Chester Road in Stretford or Woodhouse Lane in Altrincham.

- Empty the water a day or two ahead so it dries out
- Have an electrician disconnect and make safe a hard-wired tub
- Measure side gates and paths
- Make sure there is space on the drive or road for a van
An inflatable tub is a different job: let it down, fold it, and the liner, pump and cover can often go in a car.
Choosing a company
Ask if the price includes cutting it up, carrying it out and getting rid of it, and check their waste carrier registration. Photos of the tub and the route to the road get you a firmer price.
