The garden waste bin
Liverpool City Council's 2026 garden waste terms give the annual charge for one bin as £50. The page prices extra bins two ways that don't match: a table (two bins £93.75, three £125, four £156.25, five £187.50) and a line saying all additional bins are £25. Ask the council what you would pay before you sign up for more than one. Bins are emptied fortnightly between February and December, and you must subscribe and pay in advance, online, by phone or at an agent such as a One Stop Shop. The page mentions no discounts. You have 14 days from the day after agreeing to cancel.
What goes in
Grass cuttings, hedge clippings, twigs, bark, leaves, flowers, plants and small branches. It refuses large branches, invasive plants, turf, soil, stones, food waste, animal waste, card, plastic and pet bedding. Put the bin out by 6.30am, with the lid fully closed, because side waste is not collected.
The tips
The council says its tips take garden clippings. A van trip counts towards your 12 visits a year, including garden waste. See the Liverpool tips guide and van booking. The bulky collection refuses garden waste.
If a gardener did the work
Trade waste isn't accepted at the tips, so check that a gardener's quote includes taking the waste away. A landlord clearing a garden should ask the authority first. See landlord and rental waste in Liverpool.
A big clearance
The council bulky collection won't take sheds, swing sets, trampolines or garden waste. For an overgrown garden or a big tree job, a licensed firm or a skip is simpler. See garden waste collection or rubbish removal.
