When it's your rubbish someone else dumps
In 2017 a man from Moortown paid someone to take away his waste without checking they were authorised. About 750kg of it was later found dumped in a wooded area of Woodhouse Ridge, and he could only name the man by a nickname. He pleaded guilty at Leeds Magistrates Court and was fined £4,289 including costs and a victim surcharge. A council member said: "it is you as the broker that may face prosecution."
The council says anyone who arranges for rubbish to be removed should confirm the person is authorised, and that a council team uses CCTV and other tools to track dumped waste back.
