The council

Tameside's bulky collection will not take fence panels, large gates, concrete posts or wire fencing (checked against Tameside Council and Recycle for Greater Manchester pages on 2 November 2026). Storm damage and new fences are a common reason people end up with a pile of old panels.

Doing it yourself

  1. Pull out or cut off nails and staples
  2. Break or cut panels down so they fit in the car
  3. Keep wood, metal and concrete separate
  4. Take wood to Ash Road in Droylsden or Bayley Street in Stalybridge

Broken concrete counts as hardcore and rubble, which is limited to five 900mm by 600mm sacks a visit, from your own DIY. A full-length concrete post will not fit in a sack, so ask staff before you load it. Vans need a free van permit.
