Council collection
The council bulky collection counts a carpet or lino rolled to a maximum 4ft length as one item, and three items cost £30. A living room carpet cut into three rolls would use all three. Staff won't come into your home, so the rolls need to be outside where they can be reached, and items over 25kg can be charged for.
The tips
"Carpets" is on the accepted list in the council's tips policy. The pages for the individual tips don't mention carpet, so check with the council before you load the car. You need a resident permit. See the Bradford tips.
Private collection
If you're replacing the flooring in a whole house, a private collection will usually cost less than paying the council for several rounds of three items. A licensed firm takes the carpet and underlay together. For a big job, see rubbish removal or house clearance in Bradford.
Getting it ready
- Cut and roll the carpet to under 4ft, and tape it
- Keep it dry. Wet carpet is much heavier
- Pull up the gripper rods and staples with gloves on
- If it's a tenancy, check who is responsible. See landlord and rental waste in Bradford
