Price and limits
Bradford Council charges £30 for up to 3 items, and only items on its list are collected. The council says there is a charge for everything it collects, and the page mentions no free allowance. You can book as often as you like, but each collection is limited to three items. Items over 25kg can be charged for.
How to book
- Fill in the council's online request form (you will need to register the first time)
- Pay online, or by phone on 01274 431000. Crews can't take payment on the day
- You are given your date when you book and pay. Collections run Monday to Friday, 6.30am to 4pm
- Leave the items somewhere safe, dry and accessible, with gates unlocked. Staff won't go into homes, sheds, garages or outbuildings
To cancel and get a refund, call at least two days before. There is no refund if the items aren't out, can't be collected safely or access is blocked. If bad weather causes a miss, the council says it will try again.
What counts as one item
Each of these counts as one: a mattress, a wardrobe, a chest of drawers, a desk, a dining table, a sideboard, a bookcase, a bicycle, a bed base (dismantled), a rolled carpet or lino up to 4ft long, up to four dining chairs without cushioning, garden furniture, and one garden waste bag or bundle. So a bed base and a mattress use two of your three.
Sofas and cushioned seating
An armchair, a settee or up to four cushioned dining chairs each count as one item, and no separate price is shown. The council must collect them in a separate vehicle and not with other waste, so they can be disposed of by specialist incineration. Cover soft furnishings so they stay dry. See sofa disposal in Bradford.
What they won't take
Asbestos, bathroom suites, builders' or DIY waste, tyres and car parts, chemicals, mirrors, radiators, windows and doors, fitted kitchen units, fitted bedroom suites, cast iron boilers, gas containers, rubble, stone, soil and brick, industrial items and loose or bagged waste. Waste from businesses, tradespeople or rental property work can't use the service either.
Council or private?
For one or two big pieces the council is simple if you can wait for a date and carry things out. For a kitchen, a bathroom, bags of waste or a whole property, it is ruled out. See builders' waste collection or house clearance in Bradford. For one item, see mattress or fridge disposal, or get a single item quote.
