The council notice

Every Bradford tip page carries the same notice: the council is temporarily unable to accept fridges and freezers. Its storage areas are at full capacity, there is a national shortage of specialist processing, and it can't safely take more. The council asks you to keep an unwanted appliance until normal service resumes. The weighbridge price list still shows domestic fridges at £5 each, but the notice is the rule for now.

What you can do

  1. Keep it, if you have the space, until the council says the service has restarted
  2. If you are buying a new one, ask the shop about take-back, which the council says isn't affected
  3. Book a specialist waste collection company. The council says these aren't affected either
  4. Get a quote from a licensed single item removal firm

Fridges don't appear on the council's bulky collection list, and the council only collects listed items. See the council bulky collection page.

Other electrical items

The council's policy lists electrical appliances, TVs and monitors, batteries and fluorescent tubes as accepted, and each tip page has "electrical" on its list. You need a resident permit. See the five Bradford tips.

Private collection

A licensed collector will usually remove a fridge for about £20 to £50 as a UK guide price.
