At the tip
The Recycle for Greater Manchester guide says you can take carpets to a recycling centre, so Chester Road in Stretford or Woodhouse Lane in Altrincham will take carpet you lifted yourself. Cut it into strips about a metre wide, roll them and tape them. A van needs a free van permit.
On a council collection
Trafford does not publish its full list of collectable items on the bulky page. The list is in the terms you see when you book. If carpet is accepted when you book, its terms say no item can be longer than 3 metres, each must be safe for two people to carry, and soft items should be covered so rain does not soak in.
