Opening hours
| Days | Opening hours |
|---|---|
| Monday to Friday | 7am to 9pm |
| Saturday and Sunday | 8am to 6pm |
These are the longer hours brought in during the bin strike, as listed by Veolia, which runs the sites. They could change when the strike ends, so check before you go late in the evening.
Booking and rules
- Book first. Cars book online at least 2 hours ahead and up to 6 days ahead. You get a 15-minute slot by email. You can hold up to 2 bookings at once. Turn up without one and you'll be turned away (except cars at Castle Bromwich for now)
- Birmingham residents only. You must pay council tax to Birmingham City Council. Bring a driving licence, council tax bill or utility bill (paper or on your phone)
- Vehicles only. No people on foot. Use the car you booked
- Small trailers up to 6ft x 4ft are allowed (not at Kings Norton). Bigger trailers and vans must use the van booking
- Soil, rubble, hardcore and turf: no more than eight 25kg bags (or the same amount) per visit
- Tyres: up to five per visit
- Asbestos: domestic cement-bonded only, double-wrapped with a clear outer layer. Not at Kings Norton
- No trade waste. That includes builders working on homes they don't live in, and landlords or anyone clearing a property they don't own
Vans and trailers
- Vans, minibuses and big trailers must pre-book through Veolia's van booking form, up to 7 days ahead. Slots are first come, first served, and new ones are released daily
- A fair use policy applies
- Hired van? Use the registration if you have it, or put "Hire Van". Bring the hire paperwork and proof of address
- No commercial vehicles
- Vans can't bring asbestos, tree trunks, or large amounts of soil, rubble or plaster
- Height limit 2.1m everywhere except Tyseley. No vans at Kings Norton during the works
- In 2025 the council's strike page said it wasn't taking waste from vans. Veolia's van booking is open now, but read the booking page carefully in case that changes

When the tip isn't the answer
A lot of people search for the tip and then realise it won't work for them. A licensed local company can load everything and take it away instead.
| Your problem | What to do instead |
|---|---|
| No booking slot when you need one | Rubbish removal, on a day that suits you |
| No car, or it won't fit in the car | Rubbish removal: they load it for you |
| Just one big item, like a sofa or fridge | Single item removal, often carried out from inside |
| More than eight bags of soil or rubble | Builders' waste removal, or a grab lorry for tonnes of it |
| You're a landlord, or clearing a home you don't own | House clearance |
| Big garden clear-out | Garden waste removal |
Birmingham bulky waste collection
Birmingham City Council's bulky collection normally costs £49.50 for up to 10 items (two bin bags count as one item). But the council's page says it isn't taking new requests at the moment, because of the strike. Collections booked before the pause still go ahead. See our Birmingham bulky collection guide, or get a private collection instead.
