Birmingham bulky waste collection: price and the strike pause
Birmingham City Council normally collects up to 10 large items for £49.50. During the bin strike, though, it has stopped taking new requests. Here's the latest, checked against Birmingham City Council and Veolia pages on 27 October 2026.
- Normally £49.50 for up to 10 items (two bin bags count as one)
- New requests are paused because of the strike. Existing bookings still go ahead
- Electrical items are collected separately, but count as one collection
- Alternatives: the tip (booking needed) or a private collection

Why bookings are paused

Your options now
| Option | Good for | Catch |
|---|---|---|
| The tip | Items that fit in your car | You must book (except cars at Castle Bromwich for now). Proof of address needed |
| Van to the tip | Bigger loads | Pre-book through Veolia. No vans at Kings Norton |
| Charity collection | Good furniture with fire labels | Only if they can resell it |
| Private collection | Heavy items, upstairs, or no car | You pay, but they carry it out, often within days |
Private collection
A licensed company can collect from inside your home, often within a day or two. As a rough guide, a single sofa is often £35 to £80, and a small van load around £60 to £100. Make sure whoever takes it is a registered waste carrier. If your rubbish is fly-tipped, you can be fined.
