Council collection
The Trafford bulky collection costs £44.10 whether you book one item or five, so add anything else you need gone. Trafford's terms say items must be outside the building but inside your property boundary by 6.30am, put out only that morning, and each one must be safe for two people to carry. Trafford also asks for soft furnishings to be covered so rain does not make them heavier.

A sofa in good condition with its fire label can be donated at a Greater Manchester tip, and Woodhouse Lane has a Renew shop. Trafford also lists Moya Cole Hospice Ardwick Furniture Shop, Wesley Community Furniture, the British Heart Foundation, the Salvation Army and the Tree of Life Centre.
Private collection
If the sofa is upstairs, too heavy for two people or you cannot be ready by 6.30am, a licensed company can take it from the room. UK guide prices are often £35 to £80.
