Council collection
Furniture is on the council bulky collection list. A sofa can go on one of your two free collections, alongside up to two other items. Rochdale says items must be outside by 7am on your usual bin day, and that it cannot pick them up from inside your house or garage. Put it out no earlier than the day before, or it could be treated as fly-tipping.
When a private collection helps
If the sofa is upstairs, too heavy to move, or your free collections are used up, a licensed company can carry it out and take it away. UK guide prices are often £35 to £80.
