Rochdale tips: Chichester Street and Spring Vale
Here are the two Rochdale recycling centres and the council's free bulky collections, checked against Recycle for Greater Manchester and council pages on 29 October 2026.
- Two Rochdale tips: Chichester Street in Rochdale and Spring Vale in Middleton
- Spring Vale is one of only two sites with a 2 metre height barrier, and it bans pick-ups
- Rochdale gives two free bulky collections of 3 items a year per property
- Extra collections are £12.60 for up to 3 items from 1 April 2026

The two tips
| Tip | Address | Pick-ups | Height barrier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chichester Street | Chichester Street, Rochdale, OL16 2AU | Listed as accepted, but see below | No |
| Spring Vale | Spring Vale, Middleton, M24 2HR | No. They cannot get in | Yes, 2 metres |
Both are open 8am to 6pm daily and take household plasterboard from your own home. Any Greater Manchester resident can use any of the sites, free for household waste. Cars get 52 visits a year, and vans, hire vans and twin axle trailers need a free van permit and get 18.
Spring Vale
Spring Vale and Every Street in Bury are the only two sites that still have a 2 metre height barrier. A tall van, or a car with a roof box, may not fit. The council also says pick-up trucks cannot access the site. Vans under 5.3 metres can come with a permit.
Chichester Street
This is the Rochdale site without the barrier. The council's list calls it Chichester Street, but its menu link says Chichester Road, so use the postcode OL16 2AU. The council's van permit page lists this among the ten larger sites for pick-up trucks, but the site's own rules also say no pick-up trucks, so check before you go in one.
Rochdale bulky collection
Rochdale is the only borough we checked that gives two free collections. Each property gets two free collections of up to three items a year. After that, each further collection of up to three items is £12.60, and extra items are £8.40 each, with up to six items on a booking. The page shows these new prices from 1 April 2026, so they apply now. Contact is 0300 303 8884, Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.30pm.
Booking tips
- Collections happen on your usual bin day, and slots are released weekly for the next three weeks, so they go fast
- Have items outside by 7am on the day, and no earlier than the day before, or they could be logged as fly-tipping
- You can't amend a booking. Cancel and rebook by email up to 10am the day before
- The crew won't come inside, and items that can't be safely collected aren't refunded
If the free ones are used up, compare with single item removal.
