How to get rid of rubble and soil in Coventry
Coventry's tip has a strict rubble rule, and it doesn't take building work waste at all. Here's what you can do instead.
- Coventry tip: 6 bags a day, max 25kg each, home DIY only
- Not accepted at the tip: footings, foundations, internal walls or render
- The council bulky collection won't take rubble
- Bigger jobs: builders' waste collection, skip or grab lorry

The tip's rubble rule
Coventry's tip takes soil and rubble from home DIY only: up to 6 bags per load per day, each no heavier than 25kg, which is about 150kg. The council says this doesn't cover footings, foundation work, knocking out internal walls, or internal or external render. So if you're doing building work rather than a bit of DIY, the tip isn't an option at all.
Your choices
| Choice | Suits | Rough cost |
|---|---|---|
| Builders' waste collection | Piles or bags of rubble, loaded for you | Often £150 to £250 for a medium load, £250 to £400 for a large one, more if very heavy |
| Skip | Longer jobs you fill bit by bit | Depends on size; a council permit is needed if it sits on the road |
| Grab lorry | Tonnes of soil or rubble | Around £150 for a small load up to £450 to £500 for 16 tonnes |
Before you book
- Keep soil, rubble and plasterboard in separate piles
- Work out roughly how many bags or tonnes you have
- Pile it close to the road if a grab lorry is coming
- If anything might be asbestos (old roof sheets, boards, pipe lagging), stop and see asbestos disposal in Coventry
