Council collection
The council bulky collection lists mattresses and bed frames with fridges and electricals as non-soft items: £27 for up to 3 and £52 for 4 to 6. Put them on the kerb by 7am. Mattresses soaked with water are not collected, so protect it from rain. Earlier versions of the council pages showed slightly lower prices, so check the booking form for the price you will pay.
The tips
The council page lists mattresses as accepted at its recycling centres and gives no limit. Book a slot first (see tip booking), and take photo ID and proof of residence. Avonmouth and St Philips are open Mondays and Tuesdays, and Hartcliffe Way from Wednesday to Sunday. See the Bristol tips guide for the days.
Private collection
A licensed single item collector will usually take a mattress from the room it is in. UK guide prices are about £20 to £50, depending on the size and the stairs.
Handy tips
- Check the size before you plan a tip trip, because a double or king does not fit every car
- If you are buying a new mattress, ask the shop whether it will take the old one away
- Add a bed frame to the same council booking if you can, since the first 3 items are one price
