Where and when
The council says asbestos goes to Kirkless on Saturday mornings only, between 9am and 12 noon, and an appointment must be arranged beforehand by phoning 01942 825755. Vans, campervans, minibuses and pick-ups need a free tip permit. No one will help you lift it, and you place it in the container yourself.
Packing
- Double wrap it in thick, durable plastic sheeting
- Keep sheets whole. Do not break them up
- Wear a mask and gloves
- Packages must fit the container opening, which is 1m by 1m
- The council page mentions a different process above 15 packages, so ask when you phone
What the council will not take
Asbestos is not collected by the council bulky collection, and the other two tips do not take it. Trade waste is never accepted at any of the sites.
Staying safe
- Do not break, drill, sand or sweep suspect material
- Keep children and pets away
- If you are not sure what a material is, have it tested before you touch it
