Price and limits
The council gives each property two free collections of up to five bulky items in any 12 months. Extra collections in that period cost £27 for up to five items. The page lists no concessions.
How items are counted
An item is one individual piece. A dining table with up to four chairs counts as two pieces. A bed base, headboard and mattress count as three. Large items such as cupboards and fridges must be emptied, apart from their own fixtures, and kept clean and dry.
How to book
- Log in to MyAccount, or create one, at bulkywaste.wigan.gov.uk
- Pick a date. Bookings open five weeks ahead and new slots appear daily
- Check the date in your confirmation email
- Put the items, covered, on your front driveway or garden by 6am, with gates unlocked
- To change or cancel, use the My cases section of MyAccount
The crews will not go into your property and will leave anything you did not book. There is no phone number on the page. Collections may not happen if there is dog waste or items block access.
What it does not take
- Clinical waste and trade waste
- Black bags of household rubbish
- Bathroom suites, kitchen units, worktops, radiators, doors, glass and tiles
- Bricks, rubble, soil, wood including shelving, fence panels and sheds
- Garden rubbish and trees
- Pianos, gas bottles, hazardous chemicals, oil, paint and asbestos
- Car parts
The council says to take those to a recycling centre. Too much for two free slots? Try house clearance or rubbish removal.
