What the council says
Asbestos is on the list of things the recycling centres cannot accept, and on the list the council bulky uplift will not collect. For both, the council tells people to contact a licensed specialist waste management company for safe disposal. The pages we checked offer no council route for householders.
Staying safe
- Do not break, drill, sand or sweep suspect material
- Keep children and pets away from it
- If you are not sure what a material is, have it tested before you touch it
Hiring a specialist
Scottish guidance says to check that a waste carrier is on the SEPA public register before you hand waste over. Ask where the waste is going. Ordinary rubbish removal firms do not usually take asbestos unless they say so.
