Steps
- Hire the vehicle first
- Order your free single-use waste permit online. It is emailed, usually within 2 hours
- Check the details match the vehicle and visit date before you go
- Take the hire agreement, the permit and your photo driving licence to the site
Limits
A van under 3.5 tonnes is allowed with a permit, with or without a single axle trailer up to 3 metres at Slag Lane and Chanters or 4 metres at Kirkless. A twin axle trailer also needs a permit. Staff cannot help unload. The council says the permit counts towards the review after 12 permits in 12 months. See tip permit.
Instead of a hire van
If hiring is costing more than it saves, the council bulky collection gives two free slots a year, and licensed rubbish removal can take a whole van load.
