Asbestos, tyres, gas canisters, fluorescent lights, sun bed tubes, more than 10 sacks of general rubbish, and clearing a whole home, commercial premises or a garden all need a separate quote from the council.
On the day
- Leave items outside, within your property boundary, somewhere accessible. You do not need to be in
- Every item must be listed on the order
- Items over two metres, or too heavy for two people to move safely, may be left
- Keep sofas and cushioned seating separate: they are taken in a dedicated vehicle for specialist incineration
- Cancel by 4.30pm on the Thursday before for a full refund. Return visits cost extra
Is it the cheapest option?
For four or more items, the council's £52.50 can be good value. For a single sofa or mattress, a private collection is often £35 to £80 and may come sooner, and a licensed company will usually carry items out for you. Compare: sofa disposal, mattress disposal and single item removal.
