At the tips
The household tips take rubble and hardcore up to six 20kg bags per visit. They do not accept mixed builders waste, and the council says large DIY projects need a skip or the commercial site. Each visit needs a booked slot, and a van or a car with a trailer gets only one visit a month. See Cardiff tips and van and trailer rules. Asbestos is a separate rule: see asbestos disposal in Cardiff.
Skips on the road
A skip on the public road needs a permit from the council. The council lists £44 for a 7 day permit and £88 for a 28 day permit, and applications must be made at least one working day ahead. Refunds are not available once a permit has started, and extra charges can apply in pay and display bays. The council page says traders must register first by uploading their public liability insurance, waste carrier's licence and goods vehicle operator's licence. Ask a skip firm who applies for the permit.
Collection options
If you have more than the tip allows, a licensed company can take it: builders' waste, grab hire or rubbish removal. Ask for the waste transfer note afterwards, as explained in fly-tipping and your duty of care.
