Piano removal in Rochdale

Need a piano gone in Rochdale? Here are your options, checked against Rochdale Borough Council and Recycle for Greater Manchester pages on 2 November 2026.

Can the council take it?

The council lists furniture, white goods and electricals, TVs and computers, garden furniture and equipment, children's items, mobility aids and household fixtures such as sinks, toilets and radiators. It says the full list appears when you apply. Pianos are not named, so ask when you apply. Even if it is accepted, items must be outside by 7am on your usual bin day, and the crew cannot collect from inside your house or garage. Getting an upright piano out of a house and onto the drive is the hard part, and the crew will not help with that.

Rehoming it

A piano in working order may find a new home through a school, church, community group or a local selling site. Have it collected by the new owner if you can. The Recycle for Greater Manchester guide does not mention pianos, so ring before taking one to a tip. Rochdale's environmental management team is on 0300 303 8884, Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.30pm.

Paying for removal

A removal company will want to know if it is an upright or a grand, and about steps, narrow halls and parking. Ask whether the price includes disposal or rehoming, and check their waste carrier registration.
