The garden waste bin
- £68 for 12 months, or £63 by Direct Debit. Extra bins are £28
- Collected fortnightly on Mondays, March to November
- Takes: grass, leaves, hedge trimmings, small branches under 150mm thick, weeds, plants, flowers and bark, loose in the bin
- Doesn't take: soil, turf, logs, large branches, plant pots, stones, food waste or Japanese knotweed
The tip
Both Leicester city tips take garden waste. Soil and turf count as soil, so they're limited to six 25kg bags a visit. County tips ask for branches under 15cm wide and 1 metre long. See Leicester tips.
Big jobs
Cutting back an overgrown garden, taking out a hedge or relaying a lawn can fill dozens of bins. The council bulky collection won't take garden waste, so the options are lots of tip runs, a skip, or a garden waste collection that loads it all for you. For tonnes of soil, a grab lorry is usually cheapest.
