The garden waste bin

Bristol City Council runs a paid garden waste service, collected every two weeks. The service is suspended for one month over the Christmas and New Year period.

Prices

OptionPrice from 6 May 2026
Annual subscription (you already have a bin)£59
Annual subscription plus a new bin£81
Annual subscription by Direct Debit£56

Concessionary subscription£28, or £25 by Direct Debit
Concessionary subscription plus bin£38.50, or £35.50 by Direct Debit

The council says it raised the prices in line with inflation, and that its online forms are being updated to match, so the form may show a different figure for a while. Online orders are paid by card. A Direct Debit needs a form sent by email or post, because it cannot be set up over the phone. The council says no refunds are given for cancelling within a subscription period.

The tips

The council lists "green waste from gardens" as accepted at its recycling centres and states no charge on that page. You still need a booked slot. See the Bristol tips guide, and for bigger gardens a van needs a van permit. The council bulky collection does not take garden waste or soil.

A private firm

For a one-off clear-out of hedge trimmings or a felled tree, a licensed garden waste company brings its own vehicle. Check it is a registered waste carrier.
